Shirley’s Scribbles – June 2021

Shirley Fulton Deugo
By Shirley Fulton, 4th Generation Owner

June is always a welcomed month. We celebrate the first day of summer with longer days, warmer temperatures, an explosion of colours in our gardens and in the Sugar Bush. It brings happiness and expectation of outdoor fun, especially for those who do not celebrate winter!

June is also the month we celebrate the special men in our lives and the ones we remember. They are often the fun, adventuresome side of life, they are our mentors, teachers and heroes. Happy Father’s Day to our Dads, Granddads, Uncles, Brothers, Sons, Nephews and all the other special guys out there.

You will find us at the Almonte Farmers Market each Saturday morning for their 2021 season, sharing a booth with The English Pie Shop. As usual for Fulton’s, it is a family affair! Scott, Brenda and I will be dropping into the market on Saturdays from time to time and we look forward to chatting with you. Grandson Tyson (6th Generation Fulton and 1/3 of Triple Trouble) is being mentored to manage the market. A great life skill – please be sure to say hello. He will tempt you with all things maple from our farm. Madeline (also 6th generation) along with Audrey, our first 7th generation Fulton will be selling her English Pie Shop savoury pies. Come early as she often sells out.

Our Maples, like everything, need rain. Sap production happens year round with the amount of rain fall affecting the amount of sap and the sunshine affecting the sugar content of the sap. Sugar makers watch the weather year round!

Enjoy the warmth, tolerate the bugs (or not), get outside, spend time with family and friends….life is good!

Our family has been tapping majestic sugar maples on our farm in Pakenham, Ontario since 1840. We are proud to nurture a strong connection to our forest, our customers, and our community. We enjoy working together and crafting quality products in small batches with love for you.
